Paul Heiden has extensive experience at the most senior levels of industry in a career which has spanned a range of leading engineering, manufacturing and technology companies. These include Rolls-Royce plc, where he was Group Finance Director and, most recently, FKI plc, where he was Chief Executive Officer.
Henri joined Intelligent Energy as CEO in September 2006. Prior to Intelligent Energy, he was Vice President of Corporate Venturing at Rolls-Royce plc. During his time with Rolls-Royce, Henri managed a power systems business, introduced new manufacturing technologies into the group and was responsible for defining and supervising the implementation of strategies for deriving additional value from the group’s technology assets. Henri has a PhD from the University of Cambridge, a MBA from Warwick University and a BEng from Imperial College, London. Henri is a Governing Board member of the European Union’s Fuel Cell Hydrogen Joint Undertaking (FCH JU) and Treasurer of the NEW Industrial Grouping. He is a member of the UK Government’s Green Economy Council, advising the Secretaries of State for DECC, DEFRA and BIS and a member of the University of Cambridge’s Alumni Advisory Board.
Dr Mitchell is an electrochemist with over 20 years of experience in fuel cell and related fields.
He was formerly Research and Development Manager at Innogy Technology Ventures Ltd (part of the Innogy Group) where he was engaged in the development of the “Regenesys” electrochemical energy storage system and directed Innogy’s research programme in regenerative fuel cell and electrochemical technologies.
Dr Mitchell has a BSc and a PhD in Chemistry from Loughborough University.
John Maguire joined the Board in January 2012 and has a wealth of Board level experience of listed and unlisted technology rich companies, having conducted strategic planning and successful financial management for growing businesses across the globe.
He joined Intelligent Energy from Etisalat Nigeria, one of four national mobile operators in the country, where his responsibilities included the negotiation and delivery of a national 3G licence. He was previously CFO at THUS Group plc, and worked in a number of senior positions, including as Vice President Japan and Asia, at Cable and Wireless before its acquisition of THUS.
Mike Muller is the Chief Technology Officer and co-founder of ARM, the British-based semiconductor and software design company. Mr Muller was one of the founding members of Arm Ltd when it was created as a joint venture in 1990 between Apple and Acorn. He occupied the post of Marketing Director and switched roles in 1996 to become Executive VP of Business Development before becoming CTO in 2000.
Mr Muller brings unique experience in building a partnership-based business that has enabled a broad ecosystem of thousands of companies that collaborate together to create innovative technology solutions.
Zarir J. Cama is a former Chief Executive Officer of HSBC India and Malaysia, and was most recently the Group General Manager of Group Management Office at HSBC Holdings plc prior to his retirement.
Mr Cama’s 44-year career at HSBC included a variety of senior management positions in Asia and the Middle East. He currently holds non-executive positions at HSBC Bank Bermuda Limited, The Saudi British Bank (SABB), HSBC Private Banking Holdings (Suisse) SA, Tata Capital UK, Tata Capital Pte Ltd Singapore and Strategic India Infrastructure Fund Pte Ltd Singapore.
Martin Bloom is Chairman of Renesola, the global photovoltaic manufacturer that he helped list on AIM London and more recently on the New York Stock Exchange. Mr Bloom has steered Renesola through rapid growth to become a $1 billion plus turnover company in just a few years.
Mr Bloom is a specialist in building high growth technology companies, across a range of sectors. He has strong connections in Asia, in particular with Chinese businesses, Institutions and government organisations.
Flavio Guidotti is an independent business consultant and sits on the board of several corporations and non-profit organisations.
With over 30 years of business experience, he has worked in investment banking, first for the Banque Européenne pour l’Amérique Latine (at the time a Fortis affiliate) and then for the Royal Bank of Canada.
He has also managed various business divisions at the southern cone headquarters of ExxonMobil in Buenos Aires.
In 1997 Mr Guidotti was appointed Senior Advisor to the President of the Central Bank of Argentina.
Mr Guidotti is a CPA and holds a degree in Business Administration from the Universidad Católica Argentina, Buenos Aires, where he has also been Professor of General Management and Business Strategy for several years.
Phil Caldwell is responsible for leading business development activities across the Intelligent Energy group. Phil joined Intelligent Energy in 2003 and was initially responsible for leading business development in Asia, with a particular focus on securing Japanese OEM partners in the automotive and stationary power markets.
Phil has a Masters degree in Chemical Engineering from Imperial College, London and achieved chartered engineering status while working for ICI’s Electrochemical Technology Business.
During his time at ICI, Phil worked in various roles transitioning through process engineering into the commercial side of the business via technical service, account management and business development. During this time Phil was responsible for key accounts and business development activities across Asia including Indonesia, Taiwan, China and India.
In 2001 Phil was awarded a scholarship from the Royal Academy of Engineering to study an MBA at IESE in Barcelona, a leading international business school, as a Sainsbury’s Management Fellow.
Joe O’Sullivan joined Intelligent Energy as Chief Operating Officer in October 2011 having most recently served as VP Operations, Sales and Marketing of Microvision, a leading provider of display and imaging products for mobile applications. Prior to this, he spent 15 years at Apple Computer Inc., serving in various leadership functions which included Vice President of Operations, directing the product management and introduction of the iMac computer.
Joe brings over three decades of management experience in the high technology industry, primarily in the fields of re-engineering, architecting and implementing global supply chain, sales and marketing activities. At Apple, he oversaw development of some of the first innovative supplier hubs in the high technology industry and established and optimised global supply chain operations, efficiency initiatives and procurement strategies.
Dr Lawson-Statham is a former Director of Close Brothers Corporate Finance Limited and Managing Director of Close Brothers International. He is also a former Director of Robert Fleming International Limited and JP Morgan Asset Management (UK) Limited.
He has credentials in investment research in the energy and utility sectors and was a fund manager of energy portfolios.
Dr Lawson-Statham has a degree in Chemistry and a PhD in Neutron Scattering from Oxford University.
James Batchelor was appointed Managing Director, Automotive Division in October 2011. James brings a wealth of experience, including engineering leadership, business development, sales, technology licensing and partnership-forming responsibilities with large OEMs and their tier-one suppliers.
James joins from Torotrak plc, a clean-technology development and IP licensing business, where he was responsible for the commercialisation of its innovative transmission systems across a number of global markets and applications. He has previously held senior engineering, commercial and business development positions at Land Rover, BMW AG and Trafficmaster plc, where he was responsible for its European subsidiary.
As Managing Director, Automotive Division at Intelligent Energy James is responsible for expanding the company’s automotive business globally, building upon successful relationships such as its ongoing partnership with the Suzuki Motor Corporation.

Peter joined from Turbo Power System where he was Chief Executive. Turbo Power System manufactures high performance electric motors and generators, drives and power electronics.
Prior to that, Peter’s experience spanned a number of roles in Customer Sales and Finance in Rolls-Royce’s Energy business, Vickers Specialist Engines and Vickers Defence Systems, culminating in the position of Executive Vice President for Customer Business for Rolls-Royce Energy.
Chris is responsible for managing the Group’s technology road map from the point of research through to manufacture and business division application. Prior to this role, Chris held the positions of Director of Operations and Director of Programmes at Intelligent Energy.
Chris has worked continuously in the field of fuel cell technology since 1990 and has extensive practical experience in fuel cell stack, fuel processing and fuel cell systems technology. Chris holds chartered chemist (C. Chem.) and chartered scientist (C. Sci) status. He is also an appointed member of the Royal Society of Chemistry (MRSC).
Julie Evans joined Intelligent Energy as Group HR Director in March 2012.
During her career Julie has worked in a number of roles spanning 20 years at Roll-Royce plc, a world-leading provider of power systems and services across the civil and defence aerospace, marine and energy sectors. These included HR Director for Procurement where she worked with the Executive team to transform the global purchasing function and latterly Talent Management Executive working with the senior leadership teams across the divisions to strengthen succession planning and identify and develop talent within the company. Prior to joining Intelligent Energy she worked as a consultant working with organisations on change management, leadership development and process improvement.
Julie is a Fellow of the Institute of Personnel and Development and brings with her extensive HR experience. Working with leadership teams, this has included talent management, leadership and organisation development, change management and performance management.
Jean-Louis Cols joined Intelligent Energy as Group Engineering Director in February 2013.
During his 25 year career in Engineering, he developed a practical approach to bring technology products to market. He has worked in aerospace, wireless and semiconductors, serving diverse markets such as space telecoms, mobile phones, automotive and consumer electronics.
Prior to joining Intelligent Energy Jean-Louis was at Head of Engineering programs at NXP semiconductors. During his career he has also held senior engineering management positions at Wolfson Microelectronics, Texas Instruments, Sony Ericsson and Matra Marconi Space.
Jean-Louis holds an MSc in Mechanical Engineering from the Ecole Nationale Superieure des Arts & Metiers in Paris and an MBA from HEC Montreal.
