Lord Davies of Abersoch witnesses the commercialisation of hydrogen fuel cellsLoughborough, United Kingdom
On the 26th November 2009, Intelligent Energy, the clean power systems company, hosted a visit from the Minister of State for UK Trade & Investment (UKTI), Lord Davies of Abersoch. The Minister met with Intelligent Energy Chief Executive, Dr. Henri Winand, to discuss the importance of continued inbound investments in UK-based clean technology innovations to accelerate their commercialisation and adoption internationally.
As part of the visit, Lord Davies toured Intelligent Energy’s facilities in Loughborough, seeing operational, clean hydrogen fuel cell engines similar to those to be used in a wide range of customer-ready systems such as Suzuki Burgman fuel cell scooters and a fleet of zero emissions London taxis.
“I am always extremely encouraged to visit thriving UK businesses such as Intelligent Energy. I was delighted to talk through their current and future plans for ventures outside of the UK, especially those already being developed around Asia and other emerging markets,” commented Lord Davies, Minister for Trade, Investment and Small Business. “Low carbon technologies represent a fantastic opportunity for green jobs in the UK to transform our economy and, through global collaboration, we can emerge at the forefront of this field.”
Lord Davies took the opportunity to talk further with Dr. Winand about the UKTI’s work in promoting UK business innovation and discussed the challenges that face societies the world over in reducing their carbon emissions.
“Intelligent Energy has reached a very exciting stage in the commercialisation of its clean power systems as the market for clean technologies matures and industry fully realises the genuine opportunities which now exist.” said Dr. Winand. “We are always very proud to showcase to high profile visitors how Intelligent Energy contributes to the commercialisation of clean technologies on an international stage. This helps us to underline the importance of UK innovation to international trade.”
