The Intelligent Energy Charitable Trust is governed by a committee comprised of three Intelligent Energy employees and three external representatives which meets twice a year.
Meet the Committee
Director of Enterprise Development
Jon is Director of Enterprise Development at Loughborough University, a wide ranging role focusing on major projects and proposals including the Science and Enterprise Park. A graduate of the University, Jon has lived in Loughborough since 1982 and worked at the University since 1986. He attends a local church and has extensive connections across the town, including in the voluntary sector. He is passionate about building strong communities, and brings ten years’ experience with the University’s donations committee to the Intelligent Energy Trust.
Julie is the Caseworker to Jane Hunt, the Member of Parliament for Loughborough. Through this role Julie liaises with an extensive range of local and national bodies and agencies to resolve constituents problems. Julie is a science graduate who moved into a corporate environment as a management accountant with 20 years of experience working in the FMCG logistics sector. Julie has lived in the Loughborough area for over 25 years and is passionate about supporting innovative projects that deliver growth and investment into the town.
Charnwood Borough & Leicestershire County Councillor
James has served on Charnwood’s Cabinet since 2015, currently serving as Lead Member for Strategic & Member Services and Equality (covering departments such as HR, Legal Services and Electoral Services amongst others). As a County Councillor James also serves on the Leicester, Leicestershire and Rutland Combined Fire Authority. He has been a Borough Councillor since 2013 and a County Councillor since 2017. Growing up in Quorn, James has lived in Charnwood almost his whole life and has been involved in community projects since he was 16. Before being elected to Charnwood Borough Council, he served for seven years as a Governor at Woodbrook Vale School in Loughborough and for two years as a Quorn Parish Councillor. James is passionate about working hard for the people of Charnwood and brings nearly 19 years of community experience to the Intelligent Energy Trust.
Senior Manager, Component Development & Manufacture
Chris has worked for Intelligent Energy for over 18 years and was delighted when the Charitable Trust was established and was very pleased to be voted onto the committee. Chris was brought up in the North East of England and understands how important local charities and groups can be to the fabric of local society. Chris considers Charnwood a diverse borough where there are both wealthy and very deprived areas. On the work of the committee itself, Chris commented; "A lot of preparation is put into understanding each application by the committee members prior to the trust meetings and when we meet there are some very deep discussions, whereby a balanced decision is made by the committee and we strive to help as many groups, and therefore people, as possible."
Senior HR Administrator
Caroline is a Senior HR Administrator who joined Intelligent Energy in late 2012. Caroline was born in the Charnwood area and has worked in Secretarial/PA positions all her working life. She was delighted to have been voted as Secretary of the Charitable Trust Committee. Being part of a team who gives something back to the local community for Caroline is an absolute pleasure.
Head of Legal and Company Secretary
Jasbir Uppal is a member of Intelligent Energy's management Team. Jasbir became Head of Legal in April 2017 and manages the Intelligent Energy Legal Team having responsibility for the company’s global legal and corporate compliance function. Jasbir graduated with a LLB (Hons) degree from the University of the West of England, Bristol and completed the Legal Practice course at Leeds Metropolitan University. After qualifying in private practice Jasbir embarked on an in-house legal career gaining over 20 years’ legal and corporate compliance experience from previous Head of Legal roles at Just Group plc and Celador International Limited.
Anita is Master Scheduler and Mental Health First Aid Lead alongside training to be a Counsellor, working for Intelligent Energy for over six years, with voluntary experience via the Trussell Trust, SSAFA and Cruse Bereavement Care. The Charitable Trust presents an opportunity to support the local community in an additional way, appreciating the effort and hard work third sector organisations face when trying to offer assistance.
