About the role

Working as part of the Product Development team, this role will apply Test & Validation engineering skills to lead the design and development of commercial products for use in applications ranging from small portable power devices to automotive applications to industrial power systems.

The successful candidate for the Senior T&V Engineer role will be responsible for the planning and delivery of test & validation activities to meet project objectives and milestones.  This will include conducting validation tests to meet all legal, functional, customer and business requirements of the product, and creating test methods to suit product requirements, functionality and safety. The individual will lead, support, perform and approve all assigned product validation activities.

The successful candidate for the T&V Engineer II role will be responsible for following defined test methods to conduct test to the requirements of the validation plan and project milestones. This will include operating and maintaining assigned test equipment, performing product validation activities (including endurance, environmental, robustness and certification testing),

Both roles will have responsibility for generating, analysing and reporting test results, using statistical tools to define the predicted reliability, confidence and warranty of the product, and participating in failure root cause analysis and product quality life-cycle investigations.

About you

You will hold a BEng, BSc (or equivalent) in a relevant discipline, or possess a relevant non-degree level qualification alongside suitable laboratory or industrial experience. 

Typically, a Senior Engineer will have 5 years of relevant industrial experience in a product validation role, post completion of your degree, whereas an Engineer II will normally have 2 years’ relevant experience.  Membership of a relevant professional body, progressing towards chartered status is advantageous.

You will be able to demonstrate experience of product validation testing, test reporting and data analysis, as well as experience in validation and experimental methods in a commercial business environment.  Knowledge of the following validation principles is also essential; reliability growth, accelerated life testing and statistical analysis.

You will have proven capability of delivering work packages on time and to commercial and technical requirements. A key skill is the ability to predict and understand the stresses and environments that a product will be subjected to in real world usage, and design tests to simulate these conditions in controlled laboratory environment.

You will be able to demonstrate experience of working with quality systems and safe working practices and of troubleshooting and rectifying faults to recognised methodology.

It is key to us that you have a commercial mindset and the ability to work with a flexible and solutions focused approach, in an agile and fast paced environment.  You must also be able to work collaboratively with a cross-functional team alongside both technical and non-technical colleagues.  As such, excellent communication skills are vital.

This position will be at either Engineer II or Senior level, dependant on experience. At Engineer II grade the salary range is £23,500 - £31,999.  At senior grade the salary range is £32,000 - £38,000.
