Intelligent Energy Charitable Trust awards over £56K to local groups and charities

LOUGHBOROUGH Thursday 9th May – Intelligent Energy, the Loughborough based fuel cell engineering company, has donated over £56,000 to charitable groups and organisations in the Charnwood area as part of its new Charitable Trust, which launched in January this year.

The Trust which has £100,000 per annum to donate to local causes in need of financial assistance provides support and aid to, amongst others; community groups, young people, sport and lifelong learning. At the first committee meeting held late February, 11 applications were successfully awarded funds ranging from £1,300 to £15,520

To celebrate the first round of awards, Karen Frostick of John Storer Charnwood visited Intelligent Energy this week to receive a cheque for over £10,500 which will be used to refurbish and update the kitchen facilities. John Storer House currently provides a café for older and vulnerable people in the Charnwood area and the café is a key venue for many, providing an opportunity to enjoy a hot meal and to socialise with others. The charity is keen to maintain its 5* hygiene rating and updates to the facility are needed to do so.

Karen Frostick said: “With this grant the John Storer Charnwood cafe can continue to provide an invaluable service that supports people from many walks of life avoid social isolation, enjoy food with friends, gain access to information and other services that enrich their lives. The improvements funded by the grant will have a lasting legacy ensuring we are fit for purpose for many years to come”

The charities and organisations that benefitted from the first round of donations also include Coping with Cancer, Rainbows Hospice, the 1st Loughborough Scout Group, Abel Camps, TwentyTwenty, Peter Le Marchant Trust, Glebe House, BACA Charity, Birstall Methodist Lunch Club and the Syston & District Volunteer Club.

There are so many worthy causes doing great work and we feel honoured to be able to help them continue doing so.”

The Loughborough based Trust is governed by a committee comprising of three Intelligent Energy employees and three external representatives; Jon Walker, Director of Enterprise Development at Loughborough University, Councillor Eric Vardy, Lead Member for Planning, Inward Investment and Tourism Strategy at Charnwood Borough Council and Leon Spence, Press Officer and Caseworker to the Rt Hon Nicky Morgan, Member of Parliament for Loughborough.
