Intelligent Energy and Parry Labs LLC Announce New Distribution Agreement

  • Parry Labs working with Intelligent Energy to accelerate deployment of fuel cell products in the USA
  • Parry Labs will focus on developing fuel cell products for military, security and other advanced applications
  • Parry Labs becomes Intelligent Energy’s third regional distributor

Loughborough, UK— 1 July 2020 –Intelligent Energy, the market leader for lightweight Fuel Cell Power Modules (FCPMs), has this week established a formal distribution agreement with US-based Parry Labs.

Intelligent Energy’s UAV Fuel Cell Power Modules FCPMs are the lightest and most power dense available on the market, offering many advantages for the both commercial and military sector. Intelligent Energy’s fuel cell technology achieves three times the flight duration compared to batteries, while their compact lightweight design allows them to lift larger UAVs carrying heavier, more powerful payloads.

Parry Labs is a leading solutions provider to the US Department of Defence and commercial aerospace companies, designing and deploying solutions ranging from advanced power systems, unmanned systems, edge computing, advanced antennas, and more.

As a distributor and reseller, Parry Labs has in-depth knowledge of the design and operation of Intelligent Energy’s FCPMs and can undertake complete engineering for both retrofit or new design applications. In addition, Parry Labs will offer Intelligent Energy in-field support and on-going operation and maintenance services.

Lee Juby, Chief Sales Officer at Intelligent Energy, welcomed the news. “This is the fourth partnership announcement we have issued in the last few weeks, and I am delighted to welcome Parry Labs to our new, but rapidly growing, network of distributors. We understand the importance of providing our customers with knowledgeable contacts in their region who can provide the necessary level of support required, as demonstrated by our other recent partnership announcements.

“Our fuel cell products are the obvious choice for customers looking to fly for longer and carry more. The compact size and lightweight mass make them ideal for endurance flights.”

Offering an example of achievable flight time to show the difference an Intelligent Energy FCPM can make, Lee Juby added, “A retrospectively fitted 650W FCPM mounted onto a typical fixed wing sUAS drone could extend flight time to over 15 hours from less than five hours operation with batteries.”

John Parkes, Chief Executive Officer of Parry Labs, said, “Parry Labs is excited to partner with Intelligent Energy in bringing disruptive hydrogen power solutions to the US Aerospace and Defence markets. We believe hydrogen fuel cells will provide our customers with superior solutions. This technology will revolutionize a wide range of applications, including unmanned aircraft, ground systems, edge computing, communications systems, and maritime systems.

About Fuel Cells

Fuel cell technology is similar to battery technology in that individual cells are built up to give the desired power output. However, fuel cells do not run out of charge as batteries do and will produce power for as long as hydrogen fuel is provided to the cell. Hydrogen is readily available around the world, often generated using green energy.

Fuel cells are deployed in multiple applications where clean, lightweight, efficient and cost-effective power is required. Fast re-fueling and lack of emissions makes fuel cell technology the immediate choice for forklift trucks and warehousing. Fuel cells are commonplace in clean construction and backup power for critical telecoms. Powering UAVs with fuel cells allows three times the flying time which gives significant advantages in applications such as aerial surveying and filming and delivery.

Zero emission hydrogen fuel cell technology will be preferred to battery technology in vehicles where rapid re-fueling, high power and long range are important. Typical fuel cell applications include passenger cars, buses and trucks, along with smaller cars where a high availability is critical, e.g. taxis and shared vehicles. FCEVs are expected to be an integral part of the connected and autonomous vehicle (“CAV”) revolution over the coming years.

Fuel cells are expected to become a dominant technology in de-carbonized aerospace.
